PUBLICATIONS BOOKS THAT PROVIDE AN INSIGHT & AWAKENING TO THE WORLD OF ARCHITECTURE Award-winning architect Rodney Black provides us with a unique perspective on architecture and the interrelated themes of religion, philosophy, mythology and history. From practical experience, extensive reading and travelling, in his new publication Giving Orders, Rodney Black shares his lifelong enthusiasms through the arts of writing and architectural image making. RBDS Publications is soon to blur the distinction between daily life, mythology, science and architecture with the publication of a new hexalogy. The dichotomy between dream and reality becomes a mystery to be disentangled through the course of six novels which explore the life of a family over four generations. Each of the parts of the hexalogy is underpinned by reference to the challenging and, to western eyes, obscure, architecture of the mandirs, Hindu temples, particularly of northern India. The novels will be published in order over a period of months. RBDS Publications is also re-releasing two books on some of the work of Rodney Black Design Studios up to 2010. These are on the interior designs for the Lady Christine, a Superyacht which was awarded three global Neptune design awards; and Small Buildings describing some of the finely designed small projects of the practice. In this publication, Rodney Black reminds us that architecture doesn’t have to be big to be excellent. RBDS Publications is considering a book on the practice’s largest current project, Creake House, a significant new house for a private client that is under construction. The design of the house resuscitates principles of proportion and subtle classical referencing in architectural design. Part of the project’s legacy will be the high level of craftsmanship, a factor which is under threat in our post-pandemic era.’ Head over to the website for further information and news: https://www.rbdspublications.co.uk/ Giving Orders COMING SOON A REVOLUTIONARY BOOK BY RODNEY BLACK Giving Orders is a book about order, the way order invests in the natural world from the extents of the cosmos down to the smallest particles. The interiors presented here for the Lady Christine are a radical departure from other super yacht interiors. They are modern but rooted in the classical system of the orders and proportion, fresh and light-hearted but based on timeless principles of design, taking design forward with style but bringing the elegance and subtlety of previous periods. The build quality achieved by Royal van Lent and the specialists involved is exceptional. The interiors of the Lady Christine have been described as a masterpiece, we think of them as works of art in their own right.
