Poorly considered alterations, rot and structural inadequacy led to a potentially dangerous situation where partial collapse was imminent. Over the decades Langford Hall has been in succesion to developments, extensions and alterations. Lifestyle assumptions of the early eras have changed, inturn impacting the suitability of the floor plans for the current day. We have successfully obtained planning permission to carry out alterations to the interior and the constructions of a new orangery with a new lead roof lantern. The pool hall has sliding folding doors opening out onto the garden with a 17.5 metre long x 4.1 metre high mural painted by Philippa Dow . ​ Internally, the Annex has a sitting room, study, changing rooms and a kitchenette at ground floor and two bedrooms and a shower room at first floor. The sitting room has a bespoke ironwork fireplace and sliding folding doors opening onto the pool hall. The plant room is below ground. Onboard is a private owner’s deck with dining area, gym and a forward-facing, full-beam master suite with spectacular views while out on deck she offers guests an 18,000-litre contraflow swimming pool on the main deck and a massive sundeck area for hosting larger groups. The interiors presented here for the Lady Christine are a radical departure from other super yacht interiors. They are modern but rooted in the classical system of the orders and proportion, fresh and light-hearted but based on timeless principles of design, taking design forward with style but bringing the elegance and subtlety of previous periods. This was followed by succeeding contracts, including a large extension to the house itself. ​ Following the conservation, alteration and refurbishment of the existing house we were asked to design a large four storey extension. This was built of brickwork and self-coloured lime rendered brickwork walls with stone dressings, purpose made joinery and roofs of lead, Welsh slate and handmade plain tiles. The interior design, all undertaken by the practice, includes specialist stonework fireplaces and floors, fibrous plasterwork, metalwork, joinery and specialist fittings, lighting and heating. The landscaping work included the building of a new Orangery and swimming pool. The Orangery is built of lime rendered brick with stone dressings, a Welsh slate roof and a natural York stone floor. As the space is used for overwintering tender plants, a system of natural ventilation and free drainage through the floor was designed to maintain optimum environmental conditions. ​ The new swimming pool is set within pinnacled enclosure walls containing formal gardens, a pool house, pavilions and belvedere. The walls and buildings are in self-coloured render with cast stone dressings.
