URBAN DESIGN AND TOWNSCAPES

We were commissioned to design a development in Colchester for terraced houses, sheltered accommodation and individual houses. The design derived from successful urban models where houses are grouped around a sequence of public squares. The proposals aimed to balance the density of accommodation required with urban enhancement for the prominent riverside site.

Brown's buildings in East Street, Colchester, were on the Buildings at Risk Register for some time. Our feasibility study prepared for Colchester Borough Council and the Colchester and North Essex Buildings Preservation Trust included proposals for the restoration of the buildings to provide an art gallery and new craft workshops, all to link with a culture and heritage trail around the the town including Castle Park, the Castle and minories Art Gallery.

A new development of houses to form a small hamlet including the restoration of dilapidated listed buildings at Wendens Ambo was commissioned by Smith Woolley, chartered surveyors. The scheme was based around a new village green.
