WORK IN JAPAN

After the Great Hanshin earthquake in Kobe, we were promoted by the DTI to help with reconstruction work on the late nineteenth century British designed buildings in Kobe. Geary and Black Limited was the only non-Japanese company employed in the restoration work in the historic quarter. The Choueke Ijinkan Museum (top right) was re-opened by the Duke of Kent in 1996.

We also designed a new wedding chapel in the style of Philip Webb's Red House (bottom right), combining a shop and museum for English stained glass, which was opened in September 1998.

NEW HOUSE IN ITALY

We were commissioned to design a large new house (Gallery Eight) on the site of an earthquake damaged stone building. The house is 740 square metres on three floors with a large, central, circular staircase and views from the three floors out to the rolling Umbrian countryside. The style is that of a traditional farmhouse with heavy chesnut beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. The ground floor has a verandah along the south side and the lower ground floor contains the main entrance hall, a billiard room and garages. Our work also included a landscaping scheme.

HOUSE IN ST. TROPEZ

We were commissioned to strengthen the existing shell and finish the interiors of a large house on three levels, to undertake the landscaping including a new swimming pool and obtaining various consents.

The house is 700 square metres in overall area, was taken on as an empty shell without partitions, ceilings, floor finishes, windows and doors, inner leaf brickwork nor services. Our clients wish to have a Louis quatorze house and this is the approach we have taken to the design.
